As venues in several parts of the world start to reopen after over a year of silence, the Compass Music team compiled for our readers a guide to showcase festivals from around the world that are currently open to applications. From Sweden to Zanzibar to Australia, there's something for everyone!

Live at Heart

Sweden - Örebro

September 1-4



Live at Heart is Sweden's largest showcase festival with over 200 artists performing in 26 venues in the city of Örebro.


The next edition will take place from 1 to 4th September 2021. The event brings together artists from 36 different countries and attracts more than 10,000 people, including around 500 professionals, to concerts and music industry conferences.

BigSound Festival

Australia - Brisbane

September 7-9



Bigsound is a global gathering of musicians, music lovers and industry representatives interested in the future of Australian music held annually in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

Bigsound delegates and festival-goers have been amongst the first to discover the likes of Flume, Rufus du Sol, Gang of Youths, Lime Cordiale, Tash Sultana, DMA’s, Middle Kids, Courtney Barnett, The Teskey Brothers, The Jezabels and many more.

Waves Festival

Vienna - Austria

September 9-11


The Waves Vienna – Music Festival & Conference is a yearly international showcase festival for pop music in Vienna, Austria. The festival takes place in a series of music venues in Vienna such as the Fluc, Flex and Odeon.

Waves’ motto is „East meets West“; numerous international alternative, electronic, rock, and club acts perform around Vienna’s 9th district. Additionally local artists and sophisticated musicians from Eastern Europe form an essential part of the festival’s programme.

Every year, Waves Festival welcomes two countries as special guests.There will be a focus on acts from these countries in the live programme while the Waves Festival Conference will devotes a part of its programme to the respective music markets and scenes of these two countries.

Based in Lisbon, the MIL (Lisbon International Music Network) is a festival/convention focused on professional meetings that welcomes more than 350 international professionals and nearly 40 showcases of current music artists. Located in the heart of Cais do Sodré, the event offers 3 days of conferences, debates, speed-meetings, masterclasses and concerts allowing the actors of the Portuguese and international music sector to meet.

Reeperbahn Festival combines a diverse line-up of new, international talents with a programme comprising a wide range of themes in a progressive music marketplace. From 22- 25 September 2021, more than 1.100 individual events await fans, journalists and trade visitors in numerous venues, promising both excitement and inspiration. Since its debut in 2006, Reeperbahn Festival has become one of the most important meeting places for the world of music and demonstrates how an exuberant music programme can be combined with music industry interests and social initiatives.

Lost in Music

Finland - Tampere

Lost in Music is the biggest club festival in Finland and an Autumn highlight for the city of Tampere. 7. – 9.10.2021 marks the 14th time that the festival spreads throughout Tampere. Altogether multiple venues and live music arenas are included together with dozens of artists and performers. Not to mention the several thousand happy music lovers that come from all corners of Finland.

MaMa Festival

More than 130 showcases in 3 days, 10 venues from 60 to 1 400 cap in the lively Pigalle-Montmartre Parisian neighbourhood (La Cigale, La Boule Noire, La Machine du Moulin Rouge, Backstage by the Mill, Les Trois Baudets, Théâtre de Dix Heures…), MaMA Festival will present upcoming artists from all around the world to an international audience of music professionals (6 400* delegates coming from 56 countries), media (600* media delegates) and more than 5 800* Festival-goers.

Iceland Airwaves

Iceland - Reykjavik

Iceland Airwaves is an immersive, multi-genre music festival held across a multitude of venues in the country's capital, Reykjavík. This festival showcases hundreds of acts ranging from unheard-of up-and-comers to headline status stars, ranging from established international talent to the country's rich melting pot of domestic rising stars.


The first show was held in 1999 as a one-off event in an airplane hangar at Reykjavík Airport.
