At Compass Music, we're navigating the waves of the music industry to create harmonious connections between seaside music communities along the Channel.

 

Formerly a French-registered LTD company, we're now in the process of transforming into a UK CIC, a not-for-profit music organisation. Our compass points us towards supporting musicians and aspiring music professionals from the vibrant South East of England.

Géraldine Zanaska
Founder and Director

Géraldine Zanaska is a versatile music business executive with 15 years of experience in the UK and European music industry. With a background in international business consulting, entrepreneurship, project management, music programming, and promotion, Géraldine has made significant contributions to the field. She holds an MA in Music Business Management from the University of Westminster and has worked with independent record labels, music venues, live music promoters, cultural institutions, and the French music export office.

In its first iteration, Compass Music was a French registered limited company, catering to clients across Europe. Their notable clients included festivals and conferences like Trans Musicales and MaMA festival, record labels such as kultur:LX and Music Export Poland, as well as EU-funded projects like EMEE and Initiative Pop. During this period, Géraldine spearheaded the development of Lighthouse, a groundbreaking music tech platform that she bootstrapped and built from scratch, ultimately achieving a working beta in 2021-2022. Her exceptional work on Lighthouse earned her recognition as an Alt Power Music List Honoree by She Said So.

Recently, Compass Music has transformed into a UK Community Interest Company (CIC) based in Folkestone, Kent. This new iteration of Compass Music focuses on supporting emerging talent in the South East of England. Through regular Riot Gulll nights and events, they provide artist and professional development opportunities while fostering connections among seaside music communities across the UK and beyond.

Géraldine is a passionate advocate for a fairer and more diverse future in the music industry. In the past, she provided mentorship to women and emerging artists and executives through programs like Keychange and other initiatives. Additionally, Géraldine was invited to join the UK Music Futures Group in 2023, an esteemed initiative created in 2016 to give a platform to the next generation of future leaders in the industry.

As a respected speaker, she has shared her insights at renowned music conferences, including by:Larm, Reeperbahn, and the Great Escape. Géraldine has also delivered lectures and workshops on various topics such as entrepreneurship, live music promotion and event management, artist development, music marketing, music export and international music project management, innovation, and music tech at universities and schools across the UK and Europe.

With her experience as a module leader at ICMP University in London, she has played a crucial role in shaping the curriculum and guiding students in their music business studies. Her expertise spans a wide range of areas, enabling her to contribute valuable insights and knowledge to the industry.
